FREE COMMUNITY EVENT
i understand is a non profit offering compassionate support to those affected by suicide and mental illness, is taking its healing mission to the heart of Grand Rapids–Rosa Parks Circle–for the first-ever “Pink Heart Day for Mental Health.” The free public event, which coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day, will feature mental health providers and partners from across West Michigan, collaborating together to raise awareness about suicide and prevention and erase the stigma of depression and other mental health disorders.
From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., representatives from Joy Undiluted, Pine Rest Christian Mental Health, Michigan State University, the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan, Michigan Progressive Health, Simply Successful Kids, Doorway to Self, TCM Counseling, Meijer and Celebration Cinema will be on hand with resources, support information, and giveaways. There will also be a community panel discussion about mental health illness in the work place video, a hands-on ArtPrize experience called “Disease Does Not Discriminate,” fitness demonstrations, yoga and meditation, and live music throughout the day.
Pink Heart Day will culminate with the presentation of i understand’s annual Butterfly Award to an individual who has transformed their pain into beautiful advocacy for mental health in helping others. A live band will lead a community sing-a-long to Lean on Me.
