What is Clairvoyance? (Psychic Sight)

What does it really mean to be Clairvoyant?

Clairvoyance comes from French clair which translates to ‘clear’ and voyant which translates to ‘seeing’, and therefore translating in full to ‘clear seeing’, and refers to the ability of psychic sight.

Many people have a preconceived notion of this that is not wrong, but it is also not completely right, either. The preconception is that if someone has clairvoyance, they must be a) seeing visions and b) seeing the future (also called a precognition). While many people who have clairvoyance do see visions or experience precognitions, and some also see both, it is not a requirement

So what, exactly, does it actually mean to be clairvoyant, then?

Clairvoyance is psychic ability to be able to perceive energy that is not in the physical realm through the act of sight. This means that if you are experiencing seeing shapes, colours, or auras, you are absolutely clairvoyant.

People with clairvoyance might experience seeing images, people, faces, creatures, or full-on film-reel style events. These sightings may be very vivid, very blurry, or somewhere in between. Many people with clairvoyance do not believe that they are clairvoyant, because what they see is so subtle that they do not believe that they are seeing anything, at all.

Some people experience clairvoyance only in their mind- they see the images in their heads. This can be just a quick blip, a dream, or a daydream, or it can be that in waking life- eyes open or shut- they are able to visually, in their head, see the energy that is surrounding them.

Others experience the images in their heads projected outwards into the space where the energy exists in the room. These two types of clairvoyance are actually more common than seeing things outright in the context of the physical world, i.e. most people with clairvoyance do not experience seeing things outside of themselves, though it is not abnormal to experience that, either.

Clairvoyance is an ability that I believe most children have, especially when they are growing their imaginations. At that point in life, anything is possible, and anything can exist. Many people lose their clairvoyance as they grow older: as their parents or neighbours or religious leaders or friends tell them that they are too old to be playing imagination games. Others may lose their clairvoyance due to seeing frightening images as a child, leading them to block out their clairvoyance, themselves.

Clairvoyance- just as any other psychic ability- can be experienced in three forms: 1) Precognitive, 2) Cognitive, 3) Postcognitive.

Precognitive clairvoyance is when a person experiences seeing something (sometimes it is a vision, sometimes it is not) that is yet to happen. To explain, we can use the example of meeting a friend for lunch. One day, you are sitting at home and suddenly start daydreaming about meeting this friend for lunch at a particular restaurant, and you see that they order a Caeser salad, which is not something they would normally order. The next day, that friend calls you and asks you if you would like to meet for lunch that weekend. You ask where, they name the restaurant that you daydreamed about. You think it’s strange, but you go with it. When you get to the restaurant and sit down to order, your friend gets the Caesar salad. You saw something happen before it happened. Precognitions can be experienced as soon as 5 minutes before the event, and as far away as 100s or 1000s of years before the event.

Cognitive clairvoyance is seeing something as it is happening. Using a similar example, your friend calls and invites you out for lunch. You ask where they would like to eat, and as the words are coming out of their mouth, an image of that same restaurant pops into your head. When you get there, you tell your friend what you would like to order and go to the bathroom. When in the bathroom, you get an image of Caesar salad, which is weird because you weren’t even thinking about a Caesar salad, but you saw it flash before your eyes or pop into your head, anyway. When you head back to the table your friend tells you that while you were in the bathroom, they ordered a Caesar salad. You were seeing the image of the thing that they were ordering while they were ordering it. That is a cognitive clairvoyant experience: you saw the thing happening- or something related to the thing happening- as it happened.

Postcognitive clairvoyance is seeing something after it has already happened. So back to that salad. You are sitting at home and suddenly an image of your friend sitting at a restaurant eating Caesar salad pops into your head. You decide to give them a call and ask how they are doing. During the conversation, they happen to mention that three days ago they were at the restaurant that you had seen in your mind’s eye, and that they had thought of you and so it’s strange that you would call. You say, “You didn’t happen to order a Caesar salad, did you?” And they’re shocked, because that’s exactly what they ate. You saw something after it had happened. That is a postcognitive clairvoyant experience. Postcognitions can happen as soon as 5 minutes after an event, or up to 1000’s of years after an event.

Additionally, as there are many different types of psychic ability (clairaudience, clairtangency, clairempathy, clairsentience, claircognisance, clairgustance, and clairescense) the easiest way to understand if what you are experiencing is clairvoyance is to listen to the verbs and adjectives that you are using. Any descriptors of visuals, such as shapes, colours, or patterns would be indicative of a clairvoyant experience, as would using the verbs, “I see” or “I saw” or “I am seeing”, or a descriptor such as, “It looks like…”, so listen to the language that you are using to determine if what you are experiencing is clairvoyance, or another type of psychic ability.

So what does it really mean to be clairvoyant? It means that you see things. You see energy. It means that what you are experiencing with this sight is 100% real, even if only in another plane. It means that you’re absolutely 100% human.
